Thomas Cup and Uber BAM Calling 25 Players. Badminton News, Twenty-five badminton players have been called up by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for a nine-day training camp at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara, here from April 15 to 23.  According to a statement on the association’s official Facebook website, it was for the national team’s preparations for the Thomas and Uber Cup competition in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 8 to 15.

“Twenty-four players consisting of 12 male and 12 female athletes will be selected to depart for Bangkok on May 5. April 22 is the last day to submit the final roster to the Badminton World Federation (BWF).” the statement reads. Malaysia is in Group D for the Thomas Cup with 2014 champions Japan, England, and New Zealand. While in the Uber Cup, Malaysia is in Group C with 2018 runners-up Thailand, Denmark, and Egypt. Rashid Sidek, a member of the team that won the 1992 Thomas Cup. Believes BAM has called up the strongest players for the prestigious biennial championship.

“I think this is the strongest and most balanced squad. And because the Badminton World Federation has allowed countries to name a maximum of 12 players. I said just do it. With Yew Sin/Ee Yi in the squad. We have three formidable partners. Zii Jia is in good form. And playing Daren as the second single gives a better chance for our third single to score a point as well.” said Rashid.

Zii Jia is the world’s highest-ranked Malaysian singles at No 7, followed by Daren (No 35) and Ng Tze Yong (No 44), while the top three doubles are world No 9 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, Ong Yew Sin – Teo Ee Yi (No. 11), and Goh Tze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (No. 16).

In the list of players who were released by BAM to undergo training camp in preparation for the Uber Cup, Jin Wei was among the single players selected to strengthen the women’s national team. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has registered professional player Goh Jin Wei for the Uber Cup campaign in Bangkok. Thailand next month is considered a smart game. Former national champion Roslin Hashim said that the nomination of the former two-time junior world champion could provide ‘added value for the national squad, especially in singles.

“For me, it would be a loss if we didn’t include Jin Wei in the current Uber Cup squad. I see he can still play well even though he hasn’t played in an international tournament for a long time.

Uber Cup: S Kisona, Eoon Qi Xuan, Myisha Khairul, Tan Zhing Yi, Goh Jin Wei, Chan Wen Tse, Pearly Tan. M Thinaah, Anna Cheong, Teoh Mei Xing, Low Yeen Yuan and Valerie Siow.
