Latest Sports News Poland Hosts the World Volleyball Championship. This decision is an impact on the war situation in Ukraine, which is still heating up since Russia’s military invasion last week.

The 2022 Men’s Volleyball World Championship was originally scheduled to take place from 26 August to 11 September, with the group stage stages being held in several cities and the final match being held in Moscow. This announcement was officially made by the FIVB on Tuesday last month. The FIVB openly expressed its support for the safety of the Ukrainian people. The FIVB follows in the footsteps of other sports federations that have previously canceled various international championship events in Russia. One day earlier, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) officially announced it was withdrawing the participation of Russia and Belarus as the host of the world badminton tournament. In fact, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has publicly called for international sports federations and competition organizers to exclude Russia and Belarus.

Poland Replaces Russia

“Following the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the FIVB is very concerned about the escalating situation and for the safety of the Ukrainian people. The FIVB Administrative Council has come to the conclusion that it is impossible to prepare and hold the World Championships in Russia due to the war in Ukraine.” the World Volleyball body said in a statement. Not only that, but the FIVB also attracted the participation of Russian athletes from the 2022 Men’s Volleyball World Championship.

“Therefore, it has been decided to remove Russia from the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, which is scheduled to be held in August and September 2022. The Russian Volleyball Federation and the 2022 Volleyball Organizing Committee have been notified. The FIVB will look for alternative host countries to ensure the global Volleyball Family. Including National Federations, athletes, officials, and fans all feel safe and proud to participate in this joyful and peaceful sports festival.” added FIVB.

Poland is hosting the 2021 men’s European volleyball championship along with the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Finland. Morawiecki said Poland had invited Slovenia to co-host the tournament, with the final and third-place match to be held in Poland. Poland is the world champion, having defended the title in 2018, beating Brazil in the final again after triumphing in 2014.
