Stephen Curry is a rising star of the Golden State Warriors team. Starting at the beginning of this week, he has been able to increase his three-point shot record to 2,967. Steph Curry is only six points from the 3-point record that the NBA legend Ray Allen held. Then on Tuesday Night, on December 13, 2021, Stephen Curry was crowned King of three-pointers after passing the record earlier held by Ray Allen.

Stephen Curry has now managed to collect 2,977 three-pointers from a total of 789 matches. In the history of the League, Stephen Curry deserves the nickname of the best shooter. This comes from his many records during his career in the NBA.

In the past, the three-pointers line has undergone several tests. The first test was carried out in 1945 at the university level at that time. For the line, the distance itself starts from 6.4 meters from the circle under the ring. The first attempt was made in a match conducted by Fordham and Columbia. It has, though, not yet been established as a standard rule in the world of basketball. This was because it was still a probationary period. Then in 1958, another test was carried out by setting the three-point line distance of 7.01 meters. The test was carried out during the match between Siena and St. Francis.

Three-point experiments

Then in 1961, another experiment was carried out  During this test, all scores from behind the line were awarded 3 points. Continuing in 1962, Daniel Lynch (Head Coach of St. Francis) from New York also tried the line spacing that had previously been done and reported it to the Basketball Writers’ Association in New York.

An owner, founder, and coach of the Harlem Globetrotters named Abraham Saperstein gave the direction to the American Basketball League. It was declared the first basketball league to apply all the previously tested rules in 1961.

As Commissioner of the ABL, Abraham Saperstein is tasked with creating excitement during the game so that he can distinguish the League he founded from the NBA, which has a larger scope. At that time, Abraham Saperstein had high hopes that the shot, called the three point shot, could be equivalent to the home run used in baseball.

Three-point shots were fired at arbitrary and indistinct distances before the various trials. Then the campus coach Abraham Saperstein finally set the three-pointers distance to 7.6 meters. The three-point line is also made perfunctory, which is important first.

Scientific Knowledge of 3-point shots

Does not use the basics of scientific knowledge at all. Importantly, there were two coaches who witnessed and assisted in the process of installing the three-point line. As time goes by, the distance of the three-point line is always changing. Moreover, the development of the League in the United States region is increasingly prominent.

In the end, around June 1979, the NBA decided to adopt a three-point line which was piloted during the 1979-1980 season. The three-point trial was only used as entertainment at that time.

The first player to set an NBA history record with the most triple points was Chris Ford, who came from the Boston Celtics. The three-point shot made by Chris Ford was precisely on October 12, 1979. Then in the following seasons, which were still adopting the three-point trial, more and more top players managed to do it. These players include Kevin Grevey, Rick Barry, and Larry Bird.

After various experiments were carried out, the NBA finally gave a decision regarding the distance of three points included in the rules, which was 7.28 meters. Since setting the distance of 7.28 meters, the record holder until 2021 is led by Ray Allen. Ray’s record was finally broken by Stephen Curry in December 2021.
