Golf News Today, the latest Ekings News reports that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have entered their names, according to several news agencies, to participate in the US Open.

That doesn’t mean that one or both of them can be confirmed to take part in the tournament. They isare slated to compete at the Country Club in Brooklyn from June 16-19.  Both with quotas already booked for the event.

Tiger Woods played in his first tournament of the year at the Masters. Tiger finishing 47th as he is reclaiming his former form. After suffering a chronic injury in a car crash in February 2021, he is determined to play in the British Open at St Andrew’s in July. But he has yet to confirm whether he will compete in the PGA Championship at the Southern Hills in Oklahoma or the US Open.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has not played at the tournament since January. After making controversial comments about the Saudi-backed golf league and criticism of the PGA Tour’s performance. There are among the 9,265 golfers entering the US Open.

Among 48 players, including 12 reigning US Open champions, Tiger Woods and Phil Michelson are excluded. They can participate in the competition automatically. While thousands of other golfers must try to enter the tournament through regional qualifiers.

Spain’s Jon Rahm won last year’s US Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course near San Diego. Tiger Woods won the US Open three times that year. It was 2000, 2002, and 2008; however, it is the only major that Michelson has never won, although he is runner-up six times, with Michelson, 51, winning the PGA Championship last summer. This gave him a five-year exemption from qualifying for the US Open.
